Pickler cancels Rodeo show

Those looking to see “the small town girl” in concert at this year’s Rattlesnake Rodeo, can think again, officials said Friday.

Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said Kellie Pickler, who was originally scheduled to perform Sat., March 31, canceled her appearance due to an “unforeseen commitment with her sponsorship.”

It was announced last week that the rodeo had nailed down Saturday’s entertainment with Pickler.

“We are looking for someone else,” Edgar said. “We haven’t decided on anyone, so we ask everyone to sit tight while we find someone else. I have no clue who it will be, but I hope we can nail it down next week. We assure everyone we will have great entertainment.”

There’s one thing for sure —Travis Tritt will headline the Friday night show, Edgar said.

He is famous for songs such as “Help Me Hold On,” “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” and “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.”

Admission is $30 for the two-day event or $20 per day, which includes the concerts, snake snows, local entertainment, greasy pole climb, buck dancing contest.

Advanced tickets will be available in the coming weeks. Gates will open at 3 p.m., on Fri., March 30, and 8 a.m. on Sat., March 31.
