Republicans announce ‘bold’ education agenda

The state’s Republican leaders on Wednesday announced a “bold” agenda to improve Alabama’s public schools.

Gov. Robert Bentley, Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh (R-Anniston) announced the agenda in a press conference at Wilkerson Middle School.

Bentley said a slate of reforms to be proposed in the upcoming session of the legislature, that begins Feb. 7, includes a measure to include student achievement data in teacher evaluations; give teachers a $300 tax credit for the purchase of school supplies; and charter school legislation.
