Wilson to headline Rodeo

County music’s “Redneck Woman” will hit the stage of the Saturday night show of the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo, officials announced Thursday.

“I’m really excited to announce that Gretchen Wilson will be out new headliner,” Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said. “I’m tickled that we have put this to bed.”

Edgar said with all the entertainment in place, rodeo officials are hoping to have the tickets on sale online by today.

Edgar said Wilson is a great fit for the rodeo.

“She’s a country girl,” he said.

Wilson is famous for singles such as “Redneck Woman,” which spent six weeks at No. 1; “Here for the Party;” “When I Think About Cheatin’;” “Homewrecker,” and “All Jacked Up.”

Wilson will be a complement to Friday night’s Travis Tritt concert, Edgar said.

Tritt is famous for songs such as “Help Me Hold On,” “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” and “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.”

Admission is $30 for the two-day event or $20 per day, which will include the Tritt concert and snake show on Friday as well as local entertainment, snake show, greasy pole climb, buck dancing contest and the Wilson contest on Saturday.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. on Fri., March 30, and 8 a.m. on Sat., March 31.
