There is still one week remaining to get involved with the 2012 Cancer Freeze event.

Locals can participate in the first Cancer Freeze 5K run at Lake Jackson, the chili cook-off or the water events.

The annual event is held to increase awareness about cancer and to raise funds to benefit a person who is battling cancer. This year, there are three beneficiaries – Cooper Sasser, Ayla Powers and Michael Harrison.

Participants who donate a minimum of $20 can water-ski, wakeboard, kneeboard or tube in the cold waters of Lake Jackson. Boats and equipment will be provided, or participants can bring their own equipment.

The day’s schedule is as follows:

• 10 a.m. – Cancer Freeze 5K Walk/Run

• 11 a.m. – Chili cookoff voting begins

• Noon – Watersports begin (skiing, wakeboarding and tubing)

• 3 p.m – Silent auction closes

Raffle prizes will be given out throughout the day.
