Opp defeats Florala, 39-28

The Opp Bobcats held the Florala Wildcats to one point in the third period, and went on to claim a 39-28 victory on Thursday night at home.

FHS led 5-2 after the first period, and the Bobcats outscored the Wildcats 14-8 in the second period to lead 16-13 at half time.

Opp scored six points compared to Florala’s lonely one in the third period.

Trent Finedore led the Bobcats with nine points; Zyki Wade chipped in 9 points; and Tavis Stoudemire had eight points.

“Our defense is doing really well,” FHS coach Daniel Allison said despite the loss. “We held them to two points in the first period. We’re doing good things.

“We’re just hitting spurts where we can’t score,” he said. “That’s the one thing we’ve got to work on before the area tournament starts.”

Jonathan Burleson led the Wildcats with 11 points, and Hunter Oswald chipped in six points.

In B-team action, Opp won 39-23.

In girls action, the Lady Bobcats (13-5) dominated the Lady Wildcats with a 41-6 win.

Saquaya Lane led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points; Laiken Free chipped in eight points; and Ali Jessie had seven points.

Florala’s Lyndsee Edwards had three points.

Opp will host rival Andalusia, and Florala will visit Elba tonight in regular season action.
