Boys, girls area tourney schedules

This week marks the week where local teams will participate in area tournaments to see who will advance in the post season.
The first round of each area tournament is between the No. 1 and No. 4, and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds from each area.
The area tournament format is single elimination.
A team needs only to win the first round of the tournament to advance to the sub regional round, which will be next Thursday for girls and next Friday for boys.
Here is the break down of area tournaments on a local level:
Class 1A, Area 2
On Thursday, Geneva County and Florala’s boys and girls teams will play at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The following night, Pleasant Home’s boys and girls will face the No. 4 seed Kinston at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
The championships for both boys and girls are set for Mon., Feb. 13, with the girls at 6 and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Class 2A, Area 2
After defeating New Brockton 39-28 on Monday night, Red Level’s girls will play Samson on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to vie for a spot in the sub regional round.
In other girls action, Zion Chapel will face Elba at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the first round.
Red Level’s boys will face New Brockton at 6 p.m. in Elba on Friday in the first round. Elba will face the winner of the Samson-Zion Chapel game on Thursday at 7:30 in the first round.
The championship for the girls is this Saturday night at 6 p.m., and the championship for boys is at 6 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 13.
Class 3A, Area 2
On Thursday, Opp’s girls and Luverne will play at 5:30 p.m. at Geneva. Geneva will face Pike County at 7 p.m. in the night cap.
Opp’s boys will play Pike County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in the first round. Luverne will face Geneva at 7 p.m. in the night cap.
The championship for the girls is at 6 p.m. on Saturday, and the boys’ championship is at 7 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 13.
Class 4A, Area 3
In Headland, Andalusia and Straughn will play each other in boys action at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Headland and Ashford is the other match up and the winner between AHS-SHS will play in the championship, which is slated for 7 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 13.
In girls, Straughn will play Ashford at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at AHS.
Andalusia’s girls will play Headland in the night cap at 7. The championship is slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
