THE REV. J.T. CASTLEBERRY

The Rev. J.T. Castleberry, 82, of the Carolina Community, passed away Wed., Feb. 8, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., today, Fri., Feb. 10, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Meadows and the Rev. Lamar Brown officiating. Special music will be provided by Beverly Coon. Burial will follow in Stone Lake Gardens Cemetery with military honors and Keahey Funeral Home directing

He was born on Feb. 24, 1929, to G.C. and Alene Castleberry of Red Level. He served in the Korean War, and upon his discharge, he married Luria Lucas on March 24, 1952. They had one daughter, Carol. Luria preceded him in death, and he later married Lois Blackwell in 1980.

He was a Baptist minister and served churches in and around Covington County for more than 40 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed giving produce from his garden to friends and family. He was a loving husband and a kind, loving father who was always there and always provided the best he could materially, spiritually and emotionally.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hillery, Ray, Thomas and Wallace; and a step-grandson, Andrew Byrd.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Castleberry of Carolina Community; daughter, Carol (Tommy) Welch of Andalusia; brothers, Douglas (Frances) Castleberry of Andalusia; Jerry (Jane) Castleberry of Boliver, Tenn.; stepson, Pete (Teresa) Blackwell; stepdaughter, Sue Williams; sisters-in-law, Caudy Faye Castleberry and Linda Castleberry, all of Andalusia; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Ernest Brite; step-grandchildren, Krystal (Jesse) Walden, Lamar Sutton, Paul (Leslie) Blackwell, Amanda Bush and Ashley (Kevin) Watley; and step-great-grandchildren, Macie Walden, Preston Walden, Austin Sutton, Evan Sutton, Carnett Bess, Nolan Blackwell, Parker Blackwell, Michael Findley, Justin Bush, Bodie Watley and Rivers Watley.

 

WILLIE MERRILL ‘TEBE’ SASSER

Willie Merrill “Tebe” Sasser, 90, of Dozier passed away Thurs., Feb. 9, 2012, at his residence.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific with the 82st Wildcat Division. He was a barber in Brantley for many years. He took a position as a rural mail carrier on Route 1, Dozier, until his retirement after 29 years of service. He was a faithful member of the Dozier Methodist Church for more than 60 years, humbly serving in any capacity needed. He was a member of the Dozier Lions Club and served as a member of the Dozier High School local board of education. In his last years, he enjoyed being a member of the American Legion Post 80 in Andalusia. He was a friend to everyone he knew and was lovingly called “Daddy Tebe” by many.

Survivors include his devoted wife of more than 69 years, June Lowman Sasser; two daughters, Priscilla Kimbro of Dozier and Sherry (Harvey) Watt of Enterprise; three grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Kimbro of Gulf Shores, Kristie Watt and Wendi Watt of Montgomery; one great-grandchild, Chelsea Kimbro of Auburn; three sisters-in-law, Sarah Sasser of Brewton, Nell Sasser of Millbrook, Eunice Lowman of Dozier; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lillie Bell Sasser of Dozier; two brothers, Benton Sasser of Brewton and F. N. “Tot” Sasser of Millbrook; and a beloved grandson, Benjamin Kimbro.

Funeral services will be held Sat., Feb. 11, 2012, at the United Methodist Church of Dozier at 11 a.m. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 at Foreman Funeral Home in Andalusia and 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will follow at Dozier Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Dozier Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.

 

DALE RUTH (SANDERS) WOODHAM

Dale Ruth (Sanders) Woodham, 56, was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Columbus, Ga. She died at her home in Spanish Fort on Tues., Feb. 7, 2012, after a long bout with cancer.

She was raised in the Andalusia area and attended Straughn High School. She advanced her education at MacArthur State Technical Institute, the University of Mobile and Faulkner State Community College, graduating from their nursing program. She was a skilled LPN and worked for Mercy Medical in Daphne. She had been a resident of Spanish Fort for the past 20 years.

She is survived by her son, Rip Woodham; a sister, Alice (Sanders) Bailey; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Sat., Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne. Graveside services and interment will be at 3 p.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Opp. On-line condolences may be made at hughesfh.com. TOMMY GRAHAM OWENS

Tommy Graham Owens, 61, of Dozier, died Thurs., Feb. 9, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Fri., Feb. 10, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Morgan officiating. Interment will be at Veasey Chapel Cemetery with Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be after 1:30 p.m. today at Mt. Gilead Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Owens of Dozier; sons, Kevin Owens of Andalusia and Chris Owens of Dozier; and two grandchildren, Konnor Owens and Kila Owens.

 

DONNIE HUGH BROOKS

Donnie Hugh Brooks, 75, of Dadeville, died Tues., Feb. 9, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., today, Fri., Feb. 10, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home with an Army chaplain officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery with full military honors.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brooks of Dadeville; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Don (Cheri) Brooks of Savannah, Ga., Lannie (Sharon) Brooks of Millbrook and Chad (Allison) Brooks of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters and son-in-law, Lynn Akin of Montgomery and Shotsie (Rickey) McDuffie of Eclectic, Ala.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Adams and Myrtle Boyette, both of Andalusia.
