Pleasant Home teams take out Kinston

Pleasant Home turned on the shots, set the tone early and beat Kinston 56-29 in boys action on Friday night in the semifinals of the Class 1A, Area 2 tournament at PHS.
“We just shot the ball extremely well to start the ball game,” PHS coach Jerry Davis said. “We had some injury problems and we just got through the evening.”
Additionally, the Lady Eagles beat Kinston 51-18 in the first game of the night.
With these victories, Pleasant Home earned a berth in the Class 1A sub regional tournament next week and will face Geneva County on Monday night in the area tournament championship. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., and the boys will tip off at 7:30.
In the girls game, the Lady Eagles held the Lady Bulldogs to only six points in the second half. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Bulldogs 38-6 in the final 16 minutes of the game.
“We just came out to a slow start and couldn’t make our shots,” PHS girls coach Kelley Garner said. “But, we turned it on in the second half defensively.”
The boys led 20-7 after the first period, and 31-10 at half time.
Josh O’Neal led the Eagles with 19 points; Kaleb Powell and Lance Davis had 10 points each; Tyler Worley had nine points; and Ty Bass had eight points.
For the Lady Eagles, Raven Woods had 23 points; Jade Self and Mary Schwartz had six points each.
