Commission Chairman Lynn Sasser said Monday there’s no truth to the rumor that the county plans to disband the county’s public transportation system, or CATS.

“It’s a rumor and not true,” he said. “The commission plans to continue to fund CATS. There’s a rumor that it’s closing, and like I said, it’s not true.”

However, commissioners have heard a plan that proposed to transfer the administration of the program to the Wiregrass Transit System in an effort to reduce program costs.

Sasser did not say if, or when, the commission plans to address the program’s funding shortfall.
