A third suspect in connection with Montgomery’s first homicide of the year is now in custody. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force apprehended Eric Johnson in Fulton County, Ga., on Tuesday.
Johnson, 28, of Letohatchee is being held in Fulton County pending his extradition to Alabama, where he will be charged with murder in connection with the Feb. 4 death of Garry Blackwell, 46, according to a news release from the Montgomery Police Department.
Officers located Blackwell at about 4:15 a.m. Sat., Feb. 4, at a residence in the 100 block of North Haardt Drive. Blackwell had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Blackwell was an Opp native and a 1983 graduate of Opp High School.
The MPD previously charged two suspects with murder in connection with the homicide. Justin McCall and Ellis Diggs, both 27, are both being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $60,000 bond each.
The investigation into the homicide is continuing.
