Habitat to build again this spring

Spring is the time for new growth, and that’s just the plan for the Covington County Habitat for Humanity chapter.
“I know it’s ambitious and we don’t have any money, but I think we can do it,” said Habitat’s chapter director Dale Pancake of a late spring start date for the next Habitat build. Pancake said previously the build would take place in Andalusia.
On Sunday, he revealed that Tammy Taylor, a Florala resident, will be the new Habitat homeowner.
“Tammy lives in Florala, but has worked in Andalusia for years and has said she wants to move,” he said. “Everyone is very excited.”
Pancake said the group will soon begin a new fundraising blitz, as well as begin a new round of family selections in the coming weeks.
“We hope to have some meetings in Opp, Andalusia and Florala in the later part of March to kick off the family selection process,” he said.
Pancake reminded residents that Habitat homes “are not free.”
“Families will be selected based on need and their willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity,” he said. “They must also be able to make a small mortgage payment.”
Those requesting information on how to become a partner family or those wishing to make donations should write to the local HFH chapter at: Covington County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1034 Andalusia, AL 36420.
