Police have located a 14-year-old runaway from the Carolina Community, but are now investigating how she made it that far in so little time.

Chief Deputy David Anderson with the Cov-ington County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that Mehgan Cook was reported missing late Friday evening, but was located Saturday morning in Missouri.

“I’m happy to say Mehgan is fine, and we are now working with the department of youth services here and in Missouri to bring her home to her family.”

When asked about the circumstances surrounding Cook’s disappearance as well as her speedy travel, Anderson declined to comment further.

“I can only say that’s part of an active investigation, and to release that information would be premature,” he said.
