Schrimshire serves as ambassador at the Legislature

Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Felma Schrimshire visited the Alabama Legislature Thursday to speak with lawmakers and give the opening prayer for the House of Representatives.

She was a guest of Rep. Mike Jones, R-Andalusia. Schrimshire, who is 101, is a resident of Andalusia Manor in Andalusia. Since being crowned Ms. Alabama Nursing Home on July 25, 2011, she has traveled to more than 25 events across the state to serve as a goodwill ambassador for nursing home residents. She has spoken to civic meetings, appeared at festivals and parades and visited several nursing homes.

Schrimshire was born and reared in Covington County, and later moved to several places to work before retiring in Andalusia. She began teaching Sunday school when she was only 12-years-old and taught for 78 years. Schrimshire has traveled to all 50 states, every Canadian province and several European countries. She lives at Andalusia Manor with her sister, enjoys Bible study, and encourages her fellow residents to get involved with nursing home activities.
