LEVON GLISSON

Levon Glisson of Andalusia died Fri., Feb. 24, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services were held Mon., Feb. 27, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Karthaus officiating, with interment following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Thomas Glisson of Andalusia; his sons and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Meg Morgan of Newnan, Ga., and Westley Glisson of Auburn; daughter, Leah Glisson of Orlando, Fla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Frank King; brother, Tommy Glisson, all of Andalusia; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Jean Thomas of Andalusia.

Pallbearers were Frank King, Dale Glisson, Sammy Brown, Larry Stallings, Ricky Wilks and Kendall Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers were Benny Dunn; Covington County farmers; Alabama Farmers Cooperative staff, employees, and board; and the Andalusia High School Class of 1971.

NELLIE MARIE

HIGGINS

Nellie Marie Higgins, 101, of Andalusia, died Sat., Feb. 25, 2012, in the Andalusia Manor nursing facility.

Nellie’s father died when she was 17, and her older brother, James, became the family breadwinner. Six years later, James and her mother were killed in a tragic auto accident.

Nellie left Auburn University to take care of and provide for her younger brother, Fred, and younger sister, Julia.

She was of the Baptist faith and spent most of her career as a manager of a Baptist bookstore in Baltimore. She was faithful to the Lord, generous and loving to her friends and family. She once said, “I have lived an interesting life and was blessed with friends of all ages.”

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., today, Wed., Feb. 29, at the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Spooneybarger officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at Foreman Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, J.D. “Dige” Bishop of Andalusia; her nieces and nephews, Ivan and Jean Bishop of Andalusia, Linda Bishop Whitman of Pensacola, Fla., Mike Higgins of Alexander City, Tina and Doug Whittenburg of Moundville, Pa., Ginger and Mike Miller of Anniston, Susan and George Olsen of Freehold, N.Y., and Doug and Marie Higgins of Ogden, Utah; several great nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Pearce Higgins and Odessa Prather Higgins; her brothers, Herman, Vernon, Fred and James ­­Higgins; two sisters, Lorena Higgins Nealy and Julia Higgins Bishop; and nephew, Jeff Bishop.
