Opp’s pitching staff struck out 12 and allowed two hits to help lead the Bobcats to a 6-0 win over Pleasant Home on Friday night.
Russell Moseley had seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in 4.0 innings; Brady Jones pitched the fifth and sixth innings and struck out three, while allowing no hits and no walks; and Dakota King pitched the seventh and struck out two.
Behind the plate, Opp’s Trey Short went 2-for-4 with one single and one double to lead the Bobcats.
“We didn’t hit the ball very well,” OHS coach Michael Cassady said.
Pleasant Home’s two hits came in the fourth inning after Opp shut down the Eagles’ batters in the first three innings in a “three-up, three-down” start.
With two outs, the Eagles got back-to-back hits to spoil a possible Opp no-hitter.
For PHS, the Eagles gave up five unearned runs.
Cassady said his team’s first three batters went 4-for-7, while batters 5-9 went 2-for-19 last night.
The Bobcats improve to 6-2 overall, and will face Pike County on Thursday in their first area game of the season.
At the Brantley/Luverne baseball tournament, Straughn beat Red Level 11-3.
