Andalusia’s 12-and-under boys All-Stars basketball team fell to Mobile 52-37 at the state tournament in Russellville on Saturday night.

All-Stars coach Rodney Drish said starting the game “slow” was the difference in the game.

“We had to try to climb up a hill,” Drish said. “We could never get back to it.”

Drish said the boys got to within nine points, but Mobile made another run.

“They were big and physical — that kind of hurt us,” he said. “We missed a lot of lay ups and turnovers cost us against their half-court trap.”

The Andalusia 12U team finished the All-Stars season 2-2.

“They had a good year,” Drish said. “It was a good group. I believe if that group stays together, they’ll win a couple state championships.”

Andalusia advanced to play Mobile after its first game at 9 a.m. was a forfeit game because its opponent didn’t show up to play.
