WILLIAM SIDNEY FULLER

The honorable William Sidney Fuller, 80, of Andalusia, died quietly at his home on March 11, 2012.

Mr. Fuller was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Auburn, to Dr. William Melton Fuller and Mrs. Ernestine Torbert Fuller of Lafayette.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Jeffrey Fuller, formerly of Linden; his two children, Jeffrey Melton Fuller of Grayson, Ga.; his grandsons, and Barbara Rush Fuller of Ranger, Ga.; his grandsons, William Joseph Fuller and Jeffrey Maddox Fuller; and his sister, Mrs. Ernestine Rush Fuller Sugg of Waxhaw, N.C.

He was a trustee to the Presbyterian Children’s Home; deacon, elder, trustee and past chairman of the board of First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher.

His accomplishments include the following: B.A. from Auburn University, 1953; LL.B in 1956; J.D. in 1969, from the University of Alabama Law School; Phi Delta Phi, Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Omega; at the University of Alabama Law school, he was a student assistant to Dean Leigh Harrison, who recommended him to the Hon. Frank M. Johnson, Jr., U.S. District judge, Montgomery, as his first law clerk; private legal practice in Andalusia, (1957- 2011) admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit, U.S. District Court and the Middle District of Alabama; past city attorney for Andalusia; Alabama Trial Lawyers Association (vice president, Southern Division, 1967; president 1968-69); civil mediator with Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution; Covington County Bar Association (past president) and American Bar Association; Alabama State Bar (Grievance Committee, 1968-71) Alabama Board of Bar Commissioners, 1979-81; American Board of Trial Advocates; the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; Law and Contemporary Affairs Advisory Council, Auburn University; lecturer at the Southeastern Trial Institute, C.L.E., Alabama Judicial College and Alabama Trial Lawyers Seminars; Law and Contemporary Affairs Advocates Council, Auburn University; Author: Personal Treatises in The Personal Injury Field and legal articles for the “Alabama Lawyer” and Alabama Continuing Legal Education Seminars. Who’s Who in the South, America and the World; director and chairman of the Board for the Southern National Corporation; director and secretary for CCB Community Banks in Andalusia, Opp and Crestview, Fla; and member, past director and president of Andalusia Country Club.

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Andalusia at 11 a.m., today, Thurs., March 15.

Memorials should be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia and/or the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Talladega.

 

NORMA SOWELL

WALLACE

Norma Sowell Wallace, 67, of Andalusia, died Sun., March 11, 2012, in a Dothan hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m., today, Thurs., March 15, at the New Home Congregational Church with the Rev. Derwood Cleland officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church just prior to the service.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Wallace Douglas and Amy Wallace Maughon of Andalusia; her grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Cross, Courtney Elizabeth Lewis and Justin James Maughon; a great-grandchild, Landon Durant Cross; one sister, Alicia Sowell Dewrell; a brother and sister-in-law, James Clifford and Susan Sowell of Andalusia; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Clifford Sowell and Buena Mae Pierson Sowell; a stepmother, Vonner Sowell; an infant son, Tony Dewayne Wallace; and a brother, Alfred “Fred” Pierce Sowell.

JOHNNIE MAY PHILLIPS

Johnnie May Phillips, 67, of Red Level, died Mon., March 12, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., March 16, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Georgiana with Pastor Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing arrangements. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Johnson Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Cheek of Greenville; son, Will Howard of Opp; brother, James Howard of Andalusia; granddaughters, Melony Evans, Keshia Tiejen, Jorja Howard, Christin Howard, Trenton Howard, Danielle Hudson and Laklyn Hudson; grandsons, John Etheridge, Brain Smith and Cole Grant; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Edwin Patterson, 90, of Andalusia, died Wed., March 14, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Fri., March 16, at the Bethany Cemetery in Heath with the Rev. Richard Pass officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Foreman Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Patterson of Andalusia; his sister, Janice Phillips of Andalusia; a niece, Lisa Mollitor of Freeport, Fla.;, and great-niece, Meri Kate Mollitor.

MARJEAN PHILLIPS

Marjean Phillips, 82, of Andalusia, died Mon., March 12, 2012, in the Andalusia hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Fri., March 16, at the Babbie Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the cemetery.

Local survivors are her nephew, Phil Tisdale, and his wife, Linda, of Andalusia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph B. Phillips and Elizabeth Jane Morrison Phillips; and her brothers and sisters, Douglas Phillips, Bill Phillips, Harold Phillips, Hettie Bulger and Beth Nelson.
