Long-time basketball coach and local legend Louis Berry was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame Monday night in Montgomery.

Berry’s first coaching job came at George Washington Carver Junior High School in Florala, and from there, he coached and taught at Ralph Bunche Junior High School in Andalusia and at Carter G. Woodson High School before finishing his career at AMS. He coached at the middle school from 1973-1996.

Additionally, Berry coached the boys and girls basketball teams at Carver and Woodson, and compiled a 250-72 record.

On The Dothan Eagle’s website, Berry said he was extremely honored to be inducted with the rest of the class.

“I never dreamed I would be inducted into this outstanding hall of fame,” he said.
