Provisional ballots don’t affect election

There were only seven provisional ballots cast in last week’s election – not enough to change the overall outcome for candidates, figures showed Tuesday.

The ballots, which are cast when there is a question at the polls of the voter’s eligibility, were counted and certified at noon Tuesday and increased the following race totals by one vote:

• Probate Judge, Ben Bowden;

• County School Board, Place No. 1, John P. “Sonny” Thomasson;

• County Commission Chairman, Kylan Lewis;

• Commissioner, District 1, Kenneth Northey;

• Commissioner, District 2, Joe Barton;

• Commissioner, District 3, Harold Elmore; and

• Commissioner, District 4, Alan Lucas.

Both Lewis and Barton will face opposition in the form of Bill Godwin and Randall McCart, respectively, in the April 24 runoff.
