More than 28 grams of meth oil, as well as an active “shake and bake” lab, were allegedly found at the home of David Lee Brooks Sunday, Drug Task Force commander Mark Odom said Tuesday.

Odom said the lab was found when deputies got a tip that Brooks, who was wanted on several warrants, was at his home.

“The call to dispatch gave information that Brooks was at his residence loading items in an attempt to leave,” Odom said. “Since deputies knew (Brooks) had several outstanding warrants, they soon arrived to arrest him.”

Odom said during the arrest, deputies smelled the odor of an active meth cook and contacted DTF agents.

“We found several vials containing methamphetamine and marijuana inside the residence, as well as a ‘shake and bake’ operation that was in the process of cooking,” he said.

Emmett Massey, DTF prosecutor with the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, said law enforcement is the best asset in the war against drugs.

“One of our greatest assets in the fight against meth is having well-trained officers who are concerned for the safety of all citizens of Covington County,” he said. “Meth labs are dangerous. The cooks that manufacture this drug bring about danger and destruction to themselves, as well as those around them.

“Every meth cook we get off of the streets makes our county that much safer,” he said. “I am very thankful to have dedicated officers that do their part in this fight, and we intend to do our part in upholding the law by sending these manufacturers to prison.”

Brooks was charged with the unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance I, trafficking, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana II.

He was also arrested on warrants for failure to pay child support, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief III and attempting to elude police.

He is currently being held in the county jail under a $1.293 million bond.
