The countdown is dwindling down for the annual Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo, which starts tomorrow.

Today marks the last day one can purchase advanced tickets and a 3-day pass to the rodeo, which costs $30 for the weekend and $20 a day, with the exception of $10 before 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. tomorrow and the entertainment will begin at 4 p.m., with Straughn’s “Southern Tradition” string band.

Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said what really makes the rodeo is the “good entertainment.”

“But we really have two different crowds,” he said. “We have the day crowd and the night crowd.”

For the day crowd, there are 80 different vendors committed to line the track around Channel-Lee Stadium.

Opp City Clerk Connie Smith said the number of vendors varies from year to year, but they are full this year.

Vendors include children’s boutiques, rodeo T-shirts, acrylic illustrations and prints, vinyl decals, jewelry, purses, scarves, Scentsy dealers, pocket knives and sunglasses, belts, airbrush tattoos, a drawing for vehicle, and more.

And don’t worry if you get hungry, while you’re partaking in the rodeo festivities, there’s more than enough food vendors.

For one’s sweet tooth, there are mini marshmallow shooters, mini donuts, tarts, Dippin’ Dots ice cream, funnel cakes, cotton candy, and more.

Those wishing to eat a meal at the event, can partake in Daddy’s Roasted Sweet Corn or try corndogs, blooming onions, fried chicken, sausage, burgers, hotdogs, rattlesnake meat, catfish and more.

Country music star Travis Tritt will hit the stage tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Skyler Foster Band will perform prior to Tritt.

On Saturday, Opp’s Taylor Weeks will perform at 9:15 a.m., Reluctant Saints will hit the stage at 6:05 p.m., and Gretchen Wilson will round out the night at 8 p.m.

Throughout the day, there will be snake races, a greasy pole climb, buck dance and more local entertainment.

Gates open Saturday at 8 a.m.
