As the weather warms and schools break for spring and summer, Alabama State Troopers will be stepping up patrols on some of the state’s busiest highways, especially those that lead to the beaches.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety announced today Operation 10-Mile, an initiative that will patrol 10-mile stretches of heavily-traveled highways.

The effort will blanket the state, from Tennessee to Florida and from Georgia to Mississippi, particularly Interstate 65, U.S. 231 and U.S. 331, said DPS spokeswoman Robyn Litchfield.

The operations will take place Friday, March 30; Friday, April 6; and Friday, May 18.

Troopers will enforce all traffic laws, but will concentrate on such violations as following too closely, failing to signal, failing to move over for first emergency responders and failing to use seatbelts and child restraints.
