FHS softball teams win Tuesday

Florala’s junior varsity and varsity softball teams claimed wins over Paxton on Tuesday night.

The JV team beat PHS 4-3, while the varsity won 7-0.

In the first game, it was back and forth between the two teams, FHS coach Phillip Smith said.

Bailea Rickett had eight strikeouts and alllowed only one hit in the win.

Going into the bottom of the last inning, FHS trailed 3-2 and had two outs.

Rickett then singled and stole around to third base.

On the next pitch, Rickett stole home on the throw back to the pitcher and the game was tied, Smith said.

Grace Cox then walked, stole second and then scored the winning run on a hit by Mya James for FHS.

In the varsity game, the Lady Wildcats scored in the second, third and fourth innings to take a solid lead.

Lily Ritzel struck out 10 and allowed one hit on the mound for FHS.

Lyndsee Edwards went 2-for-3 to lead FHS, and Ritzel went 2-for-4.
