Pleasant Home beat Florala 7-1 and Kinston 2-1 in pool play during the second day of its annual softball tournament at Lady Eagles Field.

In other action, Brantley beat Florala 6-0, and then went on to beat Kinston 5-2.

Pleasant Home and Brantley finished tied as the No. 1 seeds in Pool A. Brantley won the coin flip, and will face Straughn at 11 a.m. today.

“I felt like our girls played well,” PHS coach Bradley Stephens said.

During the Kinston game, Stephens said both teams brought their “A games” in the contest.

With a runner at second for the international tiebreaker rule, Kinston threw the ball away at first trying to get bunter Emily Byrd out, but Raven Woods rounded third to home on the error to help lead the Lady Eagles to the win.

Florala finished as the No. 4 seed in its pool, and will face Flomaton at 12:30 p.m. today in the first round.

“If we got a hit, they were spread out,” FHS coach Phillip Smith said. “We didn’t have anybody to hit the ball today. Our bats were cold.

“We really just played two good teams,” he said. “If you make mistakes against them, they come back and hurt you.”

Today’s single elimination portion of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with Andalusia against Pleasant Home.

Kinston will play Opp at 9:30 a.m.; and Florala will play Flomaton at 12:30 p.m.
