Florala eighth grader Lily Ritzel threw a no-hitter and struck out 15 while giving up two hits to help lead the Lady Wildcats to a 6-0 victory over Samson on Monday night.

FHS coach Phillip Smith said the team was able to get runners on base in the first three innings, but couldn’t produce any runs.

In the fourth inning, Keadra Avan got on with a walk and Lyndsee Edwards hit her home with a shot to left field.

Kaitlyn Geoghagan then walked and Edwards and Geohagan were later driven in with consecutive hits from Bailea Rickett and Callie Wise.

Florala scored one run in the fifth from Ritzel, who hit a single to get on base and then proceeded to steal second and third bases. She then scored on a sacrifice by Grace Cox.

Rickett, Kendyl McDaniel and Sammy Hammac scored the last three runs in the sixth inning for FHS.

“Our defense was solid and we got another great performance from Lily on the mound,” Smith said. “It was definitely a team effort.”
