Brady Jowers pitches against T.R. Miller in Opp’s first game yesterday. The Bobcats and Tigers split, and will play a third game at noon today.

Opp out-hit T.R. Miller 16-3 and beat the Tigers 6-5 in the second game to force a third-game decider today in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs at Merchant’s Field in Opp.

The Bobcats fell 5-2 in the first game of the day, where they out-hit the Tigers 7-6.

“We’re excited,” OHS coach Michael Cassady said. “We’re right where we want to be. We’ve been preaching to them all week that it’s the best out of three series.”

Cassady said he was pleased with how his team hit against T.R. Miller’s Kevin Davis in the first game. Davis is a junior and is being recruited highly from colleges and will declare for the MLB draft early.

“We hit him,” Cassady said. “We hit him hard and we hit him well. We were pleased with our approach towards him. We did a nice job.”

The Bobcats allowed three runs by walking three and hitting two in the fourth inning with the game tied at 2-2.

In the second game, Opp’s Thomas Weed hit a line drive in the seventh inning for an RBI to break the 5-5 tie. Weed went 3-for-4 for the Bobcats with two doubles.

Dane Buckelew had two hits; Trey Short and T.J. Register had three hits each.

Short picked up the win on the mound in the final inning.

Today’s game is set for noon.
