Headland’s Katie Drew hit a grand slam in the top of the third inning and drove in six runs to help lead the Lady Rams to a 14-1 area victory over Andalusia on Monday night.

Drew also got the win for HHS on the mound, as she pitched a complete five innings, striking out four batters and allowing one run on five hits.

Andalusia was out of sync on the defensive front, committing five errors on the field, two of which led to bases loaded in the third prior to Drew’s grand slam.

“Complete opposite of last week,” AHS coach Teresa Herring said. “We made too many errors (Monday). You can’t win ball games making that many errors, especially against a great-hitting ball team like that.

“They pounded the ball today,” she said.

Drew led the Lady Rams and went 3-for-4; Jordan Watson went 2-for-3 with and scored three runs; and Caroline Singleton went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs. Additionally, Jay Walter went 1-for-3, but scored four runs for the Lady Rams.

Headland scored one run in the first inning on an RBI ground out from Brianna Skipper to score Walter.

The Lady Rams added four runs in the third on Drew’s homer, and went ahead 10-0 in the fourth inning on Drew and Singleton’s two-run singles; and Skipper’s RBI single.

Headland scored four additional runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Walter and Skipper, along with two errors.

Andalusia got on board in the bottom half of the fifth, when senior Jessica Park made it around base before scoring on Abbie Young’s single.

Herring said Park has been “consistent” behind the plate for the team.

“She’s slapping the ball, and hitting the ball real well right now,” she said. “With her speed, you have to utilize it and she’s a hard person to get out.”

Young led Andalusia and went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Before the game began, the Lady Bulldogs celebrated senior day, where Park, Greeley Foshee, Sam Greene and Kelsey Ramirez were honored for their contributions to the team.

“I hate that the score ended up like that on senior day,” Herring said. “These seniors have been with this program for a long time. I can’t be more proud of the people they’ve become.”

Andalusia will visit Elba on Friday and Saturday to play in the Lady Tigers tournament. Pool play is slated for Friday, and a single elimination tournament will take place on Saturday.
