Florala won the Class 1A state powerlifting championship recently in Enterprise.

“I’m excited for the kids,” FHS coach Justin Jones said. “It’s always good to reap what you sew. They’ve been working hard in the weight room. They deserve it.

“This is who we are,” he said. “We’re going to be a program that works hard, and hits the weights as hard as we can. Then, for them to hit it off, it’s better for them.”

Additionally, the Wildcats won some individual awards as well.

FHS senior Hunter Oswald won first place in the 220-pound class; junior Desmond Smiley won third place in the 220-pound class; junior Matthew Gibbs won second place in the 275-pound class; and seventh-grader Jonathen Barnes won fifth place in the super heavy weight class.
