For the budding artist in the family, the Lower Alabama Arts Coalition has plenty of slots open in its summer arts camps for preschoolers and elementary school students.

Myra Walker of the LAAC said there are about 24-25 slots open for each session.

Preschool art camp for ages 3-5 will run June 18 through 22, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Katie Ferguson King will teach the class.

Cost is $65 for the class.

Walker said the theme for this year’s camps have not been set yet.

For 6-12-year-olds, there are two options for art camp, Walker said.

The first will be June 11-15 and the second June 18-22, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Cost is $65.

Jessica Williamson will teach these sessions, Walker said.

In July, theater hopefuls, can try their hand on stage in the annual theater camp.

The camp will be held July 16-27, 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., and is open for ages 8 and up. Cost is $80.

“We’re excited,” Walker said. “This is a new lineup for us, and it’s sure to be great.”

“Summer art camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids in this area to experience art, music and drama in a groups setting and to allow their creative sides to burst forth and bloom in glorious fashion,” Janet Beste of the LAAC said. “I’ve seen them come in on the first day of camp, all but clinging to the wall and by the last day of camp be all smiles like a seasoned performer. It is an amazing transformation.”
