More than 70 percent of the offenders in the 25 cases disposed in Circuit Court in April received prison time.

Statistics released Tuesday by the Covington County District Attorney’s Office showed that 18 cases, or 72 percent, ended with the defendant’s incarceration. Five of those cases – or 20 percent – received probation.

And while the majority of the cases (76 percent) handled by the office were drug-related, there was only one applicant eligible to enter the county’s drug court program. The remaining six cases were property/person related crimes such as burglary.
