Area softball tourneys begin today

Area softball tournaments begin today for local teams who are vying for a spot to play in the south regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores next week.

The winner and runner up from each area tournament will advance to the regional tournament, which is the lead-up to the state tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Today

Class 1A, Area 3

McKenzie and Brantley will play each other at 3:30 p.m. to start the Lady Eagles’ Class 1A, Area 3 tournament at PHS. PHS will play the winner of the 3:30 game at around 5-5:15 p.m. Then, the loser of the second game will face the loser of the first game in an elimination round. The championship for the Class 1A, Area 3 tournament will be on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. between the winner’s bracket champion and the loser’s bracket champion.

Class 2A, Area 2

Red Level will play Samson today at 4 p.m. to start its tournament. The championship of the Class 2A, Area 2 tournament will be at 4 p.m. on Friday.

All day Thursday

Class 4A, Area 3

On Thursday, Andalusia and Straughn will both travel to play in their respective area tournaments.

The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers will face Headland and Ashford, respectively, at 10 a.m. in the first round to start the all-day tournament for Class 4A, Area 3.

The loser’s bracket championship game is slated for 2 p.m. The championship game is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Class 3A, Area 2

Opp will head East to Geneva for the Class 3A, Area 2 tournament.

The Lady Bobcats will play Luverne at 9 a.m., followed by Geneva vs. Pike County at 10:30 a.m. The loser of games 1 and 2 will play at noon, and then the winners of games 1 and 2 will play at 1:30 p.m.

The loser’s championship will take place between the game 3 winner and game 4 loser at 3 p.m.

The championship is slated for 4:30 p.m., and the if necessary game will be at 6 p.m.

Friday

Class 1A, Area 2

Florala will play Geneva County at 1 p.m. in the first round. Class 1A, Area 2 tournament host Kinston will play the winner of the first game at around 2:30 p.m., followed by the loser’s elimination game.

The championship is slated for 4 p.m.

All area tournaments will be played in a double elimination format.
