Andalusia’s Josh Atkinson shot a 2-over 73 at Lagoon Park on Monday, and qualified to play in the Class 4A state tournament next week in Opelika.

Atkinson qualified at Monday’s sub state round in Montgomery, and was the only golfer on the Bulldogs’ team to qualify for the state round.

The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 321, finishing behind Oneonta, UMS-Wright and St. James, who finished in the top three.

“We had a few mishaps early in the round,” AHS coach Marshall Locke said. “We had some late in the round. That caused us some strokes.”

Locke said he was hoping the team would’ve shot in the 307 to 308 range.

“I’m proud of the guys,” he said. “All year long, they’ve been playing consistent golf.”

Straughn shot a 325, and had no individual golfers qualify for the state tournament.

“We had a good season,” SHS coach Scott Kinsaul said. “I’m proud of the kids. They stepped up their game (Monday).”

The low medalist for the Tigers was Brooks Rabren, who shot a 77.

In the 10 matches Straughn played this season, it won five first place awards, four second place awards and one third place award.

The state tournament will take place May 14-15 at Grand National, a Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail course, on the Links Course.
