Little Golden Books highlight festival

M embers of the Andalusia Coterie Club will bring “Little Golden Books” to life for area children at their annual Storybook Festival, set for this Sat., May 12.

Admission is free for this year’s festival, which will be held on the grounds of Springdale. Gates open at 10:30, and storytelling begins at 11 a.m. Stories are performed multiple times, so that children may rotate from set to set and enjoy all of them.

In the first set, stories include “Please and Thank You,” by the Andalusia Public Library; “The Little Red Hen” by the Andalusia Bible Church; “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” by the Coterie Club; and “The Tortoise and the Hare,” also by Coterie.

There will be a break in storytelling in the noon hour, with concessions, face painting by AHS art students, and balloons available. Entertainment will be provided by entertainment by Andalusia Dance, Tumbling, and Cheer, and by Christian Wossilek.

Storytelling resumes at 1 p.m. with “Chicken Little” and “Hansel and Gretel,” both by the Coterie Club, “The Three Bears” by Andalusia High School; and “The Three Little Pigs” by Southside Baptist Church.

The festival will remain open until 3, with additional opportunities for face painting and concessions, as well as having photographs made with characters.

The Coterie Club Storybook Festival began in 1971.
