Wildcats split at regional

GULF SHORES — Florala split in its first two games at the Class 1A South Regional Softball Tournament on Friday.

The Lady Wildcats fell 5-4 to Sweet Water in their first game, and eliminated McIntosh with a 15-0 victory in the second game.

Due to the inclement weather that is headed in the area today, the first games were pushed up one game time slot.

Florala’s third game yesterday was in progress when The Star-News went to press last night.

Florala 15, McIntosh 0

The Lady Wildcats answered a six-run first inning with nine runs in the second to install the mercy rule after the third inning.

 

Sweet Water 5, Florala 4

Sweet Water scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and a runner on third.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 4-4 on a disputed slide home, where the runner was originally called out. But after the umpires met, she was later safe because of a dropped ball.

Florala scored two runs in the third inning on a two-run double by Kendyl McDaniel to help the Lady Wildcats take a 2-1 lead.
