“What do you have to do to get a road paved in Babbie?” is what Marilyn Rogers asked commissioners Monday.

Rogers was the first citizen to speak under the commission’s new agenda format, which allowed for comments from both the public and other elected officials.

Rogers was the first to follow through with those requirements and addressed the drainage and maintenance issues on John Road, which is the dirt road located next to the Babbie Quick Stop. She said there are 11 residences and five businesses located on the now-limestone covered road. She said town officials said they don’t have the money to pave the road.

Commissioners said it is a municipality’s responsibility to pave and maintain roads inside its incorporated limits. Road projects are completed under a mutual aid agreement where the city/town provides materials and the county provides in-kind construction services.

“Babbie is the fourth largest town in the county, population-wise,” Rogers said. “Yet we can’t get anything done. I just ask that you please fix and take care of the road.”

Capps said he visit the property to find a solution.
