It was hot Thursday night in Pleasant Home – and those in the stadium weren’t just talking about the play in the 90-plus heat. There were talking about the spring football action between the PHS Eagles and the Florala Wildcats.

Like the last time the two teams met, one point separated PHS and FHS at the end of the night as the Eagles defeated the Wildcats 13-12; however, both teams presented strong fronts on both offense and defense.

PHS Coach Cody McCain described the match as “a hard fought game.”

“We just kept plugging away,” McCain said. “Florala’s going to be really good this year in the region. They were huge across the line.”

Florala Coach Justin Jones said players now have a better understanding of the game of football after only nine days of practice.

“We’re still in the process of learning the new offense and the new defense,” Jones said. “I thought the boys got a better of understanding of doing what it is we do and why we do it that way. Now, we’ve got to work on executing.

“Last night was a chance for us to put into play what worked into last nine days,” he said. “The big word for us over the summer is ‘finish.’ If we can finish football games, we’ll end the season be right where we need to be – on top.”
