Oswald to have opportunity to play football at next level

Hunter Oswald will soon have the opportunity to live his dream of playing college football at Reinhardt University.

The Florala High School senior, who will be graduating on Thursday, signed an academic and athletic scholarship to play for the Eagles, who will be debuting their football program at the university this year.

“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m very excited about it,” Oswald said.

Oswald said he really liked the coaching staff when he visited the campus, located 45 miles north of Atlanta.

“It was a really nice place,” he said. “It’s small and really nice.”

Oswald said Reinhardt is more of a faith-based and a little liberal arts university. He’ll be majoring biology, and focusing on pre-physical therapy.

Football is his chosen sport, and for the past four years, Oswald said he’s played under four different coaches at FHS.

He said this current staff of coaches have brought a “new way” of doing things, which has helped him get ready for the next level.

“The coaches want us to be bigger, and faster and longer,” Oswald said. “That’s not only in football, but in all sports. They’ve worked that specifically into all sports.”

Jones said Oswald sent on an official visit on March, and before leaving the campus was offered a football scholarship. Oswald can play linebacker, defensive end and full back on the field.

“They made him feel that he would be a big part of what is beginning at Reinhardt football,” Jones said.

In addition to football, Oswald played basketball and baseball for the Wildcats.

This summer, Oswald said he will be working out in Florala, and will report at Reinhardt midway through August.

Reinhardt will no field a team until September 2013, and is apart of the Mid South Conference.

He is the son of Patrick and DeAnn Oswald of Florala.
