Isshinryu students bring home 4 1sts

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students brought home four first place awards from the USYKA Traditional Karate tournament in Bessemer on Saturday.

The students competed in weapons, forms and fighting divisions for their age and belt rank.

The Andalusia students placed as follows:

• Tyler Martin — first place in green belt weapons and fighting; and third place in green belt kata;

• Marie Josey — third place in black belt kata; and second place in black belt fighting;

• Cheyenne Dugger — fourth place in brown belt kata; and second place in brown belt fighting; and

• Paulk Smith — first place in yellow belt kata and fighting.

Isshinryu karate is taught by Mark Rudd at USA Gym and Fitness on Three Notch Street in Andalusia.
