Alabama earns berth to WCWS

Alabama beat Michigan 4-3 on sixth-inning RBI triple to earn its berth to the Women’s College World Series on Friday night in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide tied the game on a two-run homer from Kaila Hunt, which set up Kayla Braud’s one-out triple that scored Danielle Richard.

Alabama advances to its second consecutive WCWS and third in four years, was the first team to earn the World Series berth out of eight teams.

On RollTide.com, Alabama coach Patrick Murphy said, “I’m so proud of everyone on this team, one through 20.”

Jackie Traina threw a complete game, and earned the win for Alabama on the mound. She improves to 32-7 on the season.

The Crimson Tide tallied seven hits against the Wolverines, and was led by Cassie Reilly-Boccia, who had two hits.

Alabama tied the game in the second inning 1-1, and then trailed 3-1 in the bottom half of the frame after committing two errors.

The WCWS will take place in Oklahoma City.
