OCAP to offer cooling assistance

OCAP will begin accepting phone-in applications for summer cooling assistance on Mon., June 11, local agency director Elizabeth Seay said.

“Appointments are made on a first come, first serve basis until all appointments are issued,” she said. “Only one appointment per phone call will be given.”

Seay said the organization has limited funding.

“All funding is being reduced,” she said. “We never have as much as we used to. There will be no waiting list, and all of our appointments will be issued that day. We don’t expect to get any additional funding.”

“This program benefits low income individuals,” Seay said. “Don’t have to be elderly or disabled. It’s especially good for single parent homes or individuals who for whatever reason are low income. Things happen and there are needs, so we encourage people to take advantage of the assistance.”

Seay said that the organization only services Covington County.

Appointments will be taken beginning at 8 a.m., and absolutely no walk-ins will be allowed.

To apply one must:

• provide proof of income for all household members 18 years and older, from the prior month. This could be bank statements or checks stubs.

• current unpaid cooling bill in one’s name.

• A Social Security card for each household member.

• A valid photo ID.
