Additional charges filed in rape case

Additional charges were filed Tuesday against the 56-year-old man accused of raping a 15-year-old in the Rose Hill community last week.

Chief Deputy David Ander-son said Russell S. Griggs now faces a felony second-degree rape charge, for which a $20,000 bond has been set; a felony charge of enticing a child into a car or house for immoral purposes , for which there is an additional $20,000 bond; a misdemeanor charge sexual abuse second, for which there is a $10,000 bond; and a misdemeanor charge of failure to register as a multi-felon, for which he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Deputies were called to the scene Friday, when the victim’s mother stated that Griggs was raping her 15-year-old daughter.

Griggs left the scene, and a multi-agency manhunt ensued before he was found Friday night.

He remained in the Covington County Jail Tuesday night.
