Body building event comes back to Andalusia

Some 13 years ago, Bruce Johnson held the first Supernatural Bodybuilding and Fitness event in Andalusia.

Johnson, who is an Andalusia native and now lives in an Atlanta suburb, is bringing the SNBF back to his home town this Saturday at the LBWCC Martha and Solon Dixon Center for the Performing Arts for the Alabama SNBF pro and amateur event.

There, competitors — professional and amateur — will strut their stuff in an attempt to impress judges and win their share of cash and prizes totaling more than $20,000.

“We’re excited,” Bruce Johnson said about returning the event to Andalusia. “My mom just turned 90 years old.

“I wanted to bring the show back, and help the economy down there, and let my mom see what her son is doing,” he said.

The SNBF event will feature male and female bodybuilding; male and female physique; bikini; figure-novice, and others.

Additionally, SNBF is drug free, meaning that each competitor is drug tested through a urinalysis and polygraph, based on the last five years.

“Everybody that participates must be drug tested before stepping on the stage,” Bruce’s wife, Carol said. “As long as anybody can pass the drugs test, anybody is welcome to compete, whether it’s in pro or the amateur events.”

Carol said anybody interested in seeing the event can do so, but will need to have a ticket to come. The 9 a.m. pre-judging is $20 per person, and the 6 p.m. finals — where the awards will be given — is $30/$35 on Saturday.

Additionally, if anybody’s interested in getting involved in competing with the SNBF, they will be coming back on Aug. 11, and will be holding posing seminars and workshops.
