Family and friends of S&D Garage have teamed up together to organize fun day in order to raise money to help for a couple battling cancer.

Organizer Michelle Harris said the event will take place June 30, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in the Straughn community to help Gene and Brenda Griffin.

“It will kick off at 7 a.m., with a yard sale,” she said. “We’ll also sell sausage biscuits and coffee.”

A cake auction and miscellaneous auction will begin at 10 a.m.

“We’ll also have a car show throughout the day,” she said.

The Turman Family will provide entertainment beginning at 2 p.m.

“We just want to try and help them,” Harris said. “Both are battling cancer. Mr. Gene works (at a garage) and he has just finished up treatments. Mrs. Brenda did work at the Manor, but she is on medical leave for a year because (the cancer) is in both of her lungs.”

Harris said the money raised at the fundraiser will go to help with medical and travel-related expenses.

“He has to take her every two weeks to Dothan,” Harris said. “It costs about $200 for each trip.”

Harris is also accepting items for the auctions, if anyone would like to bake a cake or donate an item, contact her at 892-2517.
