An Opp man is behind bars after cutting himself and falsely reporting a home invasion Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 4:20 p.m., Opp Police Department responded to 104 North Walker Street, where 27-year-old Cody Wayne Blair told officers he had been assaulted with a knife.

Blair was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital via Opportunity EMS, where he was treated.

Opp Police Chief Nickey Carnley said upon further investigation, officers discovered that Blair had made false allegations about the reported home invasion, assault and that the injuries he received were self-inflicted.

Carnley said during a follow up investigation, it was discovered that Blair had also filed a false report earlier this year, in which he said he was injured during an attempted burglary at his residence.

Blair was arrested Tuesday, and charged with false reporting to law enforcement, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
