Covington County scored nine runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat East Brewton 15-7 at the 10U All-Stars district tournament in Evergreen on Monday night.

The game was tied up at 6-all in the fifth, and East Brewton had a big opportunity to score in the sixth inning, CC coach Jason Mitchell said.

“It was a pitching duel all the way around,” Mitchell said. “In the bottom of the sixth, they had the bases loaded with no outs, and we battled.

“We brought our defense in, threw the runner (from third base) out at the plate, and then we struck out the next two batters,” he said.

Jon Jon Dewrell took care of the last two batters of the sixth inning, and went on to pitch the last two to earn the save. He struck out seven batters and allowed just two walks.

Jake Wilson earned the win on the mound for Covington County. He struck out five batters in three innings of work and walked four.

Additionally, Dale Coleman got some pitching time im, and pitched the fourth and fifth innings. He struck out three and walked three.

James Austin went 4-for-5; Chandler Short went 2-for-5; Colby Copeland went 2-for-2; Austin Singleterry went 3-for-3; and Adam Anderson went 4-for-5 to lead Covington County.
