Covington County scored five runs in the first inning and beat Andalusia 7-3 at the 10 and under All-Stars district tournament Tuesday night in Evergreen.

With this win, CC eliminated Andalusia from the tournament, and faced Brewton last night in the loser’s bracket championship. The winner between CC and Brewton will face Opp tonight in the district championship at 6.

“We had a big inning in the first,” CC coach Jason Mitchell said. “They went three up and three down.”

Mitchell said he started Jake Wilson on the mound for Covington County. Wilson pitched three innings and struck out six batters, while giving up two hits and no walks to take the win.

Covington County got to six runs in the fourth inning when James Austin Hawkins bunted to reach first, and then quickly stole second, third and home to pick up the run.

Dale Coleman hit a triple in the fifth inning, and then scored on an Adam Anderson bunt.

Mitchell said he pulled Wilson out in the third inning, and Coleman came in to pitch the fourth and fifth innings.

Jon Jon Dewrell pitched the sixth, and faced five batters to get the save. He struck out one batter and allowed on hit and one walk.

Hawkins went 3-for-3 to lead Covington County. Chandler Mitchell went 2-for-3; Coleman had two RBIs; and Aiden Amis, Anderson and Wilson had one RBI each.

For Andalusia, Jacob Cravey struck out three batters, allowed three walks and gave up six runs on five hits. Chase Harper struck out one batter, and allowed one run on two hits.

Caleb McLeod, Brenden Douglas and Harper went 2-for-3 each to lead Andalusia.
