The National Hurricane Center says the area of low pressure in the southern Gulf of Mexico is likely to develop into a tropical depression today, and they are warning residents of the Gulf Coast to keep a watchful eye on the system.

While a 2 a.m. advisory saw the system disorganized, circulation is becoming better defined and surface pressures with the low are falling, signs that the system is becoming better organized and

stronger.

The NHC is calling for a 70 percent chance that the system will become a tropical depression by Saturday.

The center plans to send an Air Force reconnaissance aircraft into the area this afternoon.
