County eliminated

Wetumpka eliminated Covington County’s baseball teams in the 16-18 State Babe Ruth tournament at Crum Foshee Field in Andalusia.

CC’s 17-18 team fell to Wetumpka 7-6 on Monday, and the 16-year-old team lost 6-3 to Wetumpka on Sunday.

In earlier tournament action, the 17-18s fell to Mobile’s 16-year-old team 11-1 on Sunday.

The 17-18’s only win came in a 7-2 victory over Luverne on Friday night.

Both teams ended their seasons at the state tournament.

 

Monday

Wetumpka 7,

Covington County

17-18s 6

Wetumpka’s Josh Turner hit a walk-off RBI single to help lift his team to the one-run victory over Covington County.

Covington County got off to a solid start with two runs in the first inning, but Wetumpka answered with five runs in the second.

CC added one run in the second inning, and tied the game up in the top of the seventh with three runs at 6-6.

Jay Brewer led CC and went 3-for-4 with three singles; Colter Poole and Jordan Walker went 1-for-2 each; and Troy Nolen went 2-for-4 with two singles.

 

Sunday

Wetumpka 6, Covington County 16s 3

Wetumpka scored two runs in the second inning, one run in the third inning and three runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Covington County’s three runs came in the seventh inning.

Quinton Maddox led CC and went 2-for-3.

 

Mobile 16s 11,

CC 17-18s 1

Mobile’s 16 year old team scored eight runs in the first inning to build a huge lead early.

For the game, Covington County tallied three hits compared to Mobile’s 10.
