Thwack!

That’s the sweet sound many will hear on Saturday at the “Batting for a Miracle: Miracle League Hit-a-Thon” at Johnson Park.

The hit-a-thon is being put on to help raise funds for the Covington County Miracle League and to raise awareness, event coordinator Dana Barefoot said.

“We wanted to get kids involved in this as well,” Barefoot said, noting that anybody can come and participate. “We want them to be aware of what this means, and how they can help.”

Barefoot said to participate, boys, girls and adults can make a minimum donations of $10 to have a crack at hitting the ball.

“If they’ll just show up with a $10 donation, they can participate,” she said. “Adults can participate, but there will be no prizes awarded to adults.”

There will be several different divisions for the boys and girls — t-ball, 6U, 8U and 12U divisions — Barefoot said.

“All boys and girls 6 and under will be hitting off of a tee,” she said. “Everyone else will be hitting off of a pitching machine.”

Barefoot said there will be small prizes given out to the children who do well at the hit-a-thon, but the child from each division who raised the most money will get given tickets to a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game.

At the beginning of the baseball and softball season, Barefoot said she sent out pledge sheets for the players to get filled out to get pledges and or donations to participate in the hit-a-thon.

“It’s not too late for people to make donations,” she said.

Sign ups at the hit-a-thon on Saturday will begin at 9 a.m., and the event will begin at 9:30.

Barefoot said any donations raised up to $2,500 will be matched by Roy Mohon of the Gitty Up-N-Go stores.

There will be concessions available, along with face painting.

Additionally, Barefoot said any children or adults participating in the Miracle League are welcome to come out and be a part of the fundraiser.

The hit-a-thon will be held the Little League fields on the back side of the park.
