Red Level Mayor Mike Purnell has announced his bid for re-election in the Aug. 28 municipal election.

Purnell has served as mayor of Red Level since 2004, and was re-elected with no opposition in 2008.

“It encourages me to see other people get involved in the community,” Purnell said. “Several young people who will be 18 by Aug. 28, will have the opportunity to vote in an election for the first time.

“My priority has always been to do whatever it takes to increase our local tax base so that we can maintain and grow our town,” he said. “The Dollar General is a good example of what we need to continue: seeking commerce and industry so we can have local conveniences and local jobs.”

Purnell reminded residents that voter registration can be completed at town hall in Red Level for those who live within the legal corporate limits of the town.
